A hospital operated by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in Lankien, Jonglei State, was hit in an airstrike by the government of South Sudan forces during the night of Tuesday, 3 February 2026.

MSF confirms that one of its staff members suffered minor injuries. The hospital’s main warehouse was destroyed during the attack, and it lost most of its critical supplies for providing medical care to the people of the Lankien area.

In a separate incident, MSF’s health facility in Pieri, also located in Jonglei State, was looted in the afternoon of the same day by unknown assailants. In December 2025, the SSPDF airstrike hit the MSF healthcare facility in the town of Pieri, Jonglei State.

MSF teams found bullets that had hit the infrastructure within the facility. As for Lankien, this marks the second incident where the SSPDF gunship launched airstrikes on the facility operated by the MSF.

The SSPDF spokesperson has not commented on this latest incident.
