{"id":862,"date":"2024-08-26T12:04:49","date_gmt":"2024-08-26T12:04:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/goldentimessouthsudan.com\/?p=862"},"modified":"2024-08-26T12:04:50","modified_gmt":"2024-08-26T12:04:50","slug":"us-supports-malaria-vaccination-in-south-sudan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/goldentimessouthsudan.com\/index.php\/2024\/08\/26\/us-supports-malaria-vaccination-in-south-sudan\/","title":{"rendered":"US Supports Malaria Vaccination in South Sudan"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>A South Sudanese child smiling early morning as he opens a mosquito net to get out of bed. |File Photo|.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The United States government strengthens its commitment to South Sudan\u2019s expanded immunization program through support of the new malaria vaccine for children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On July 12, South Sudan became the second African country to introduce the malaria vaccine through health partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recommended for children aged six to 18 months, the vaccine will greatly reduce children\u2019s illnesses and deaths from malaria in South Sudan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the new malaria vaccine, USAID also supports a wide array of critical childhood vaccines in South Sudan, including polio prevention programs and broader disease surveillance and response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>USAID has contributed $100 million to support maternal child health care services in South Sudan in the last five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The United States will continue its support of life-saving vaccines and work with South Sudan\u2019s partners to ensure children are vaccinated against malaria and other childhood diseases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The launch follows the arrival of the first consignment of over 645,000 doses of the&nbsp;R21 malaria vaccine in Juba on 31 May 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These vaccines were distributed to the 28 counties with the highest malaria burden, with plans to scale up the rollout nationwide.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A South Sudanese child smiling early morning as he opens a mosquito net to get out of bed. |File Photo|.
