{"id":846,"date":"2024-08-20T18:42:17","date_gmt":"2024-08-20T18:42:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/goldentimessouthsudan.com\/?p=846"},"modified":"2024-08-20T18:42:17","modified_gmt":"2024-08-20T18:42:17","slug":"president-kiir-ejects-bakosoro-from-his-cabinet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/goldentimessouthsudan.com\/index.php\/2024\/08\/20\/president-kiir-ejects-bakosoro-from-his-cabinet\/","title":{"rendered":"President Kiir ejects Bakosoro from his cabinet"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>South Sudan&#8217;s President, Salva Kiir Mayardit. |File Photo|.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>South Sudan\u2019s President, Salva Kiir Mayardit, sacked Joseph Bangasi Bakosoro from his position as the minister of presidential affairs, eight months after his appointment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a republican decree read on the state-owned television Monday (19 August), President Kiir did not reveal the reason for firing Mr. Bakosoro from his position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A few months ago, during the inauguration of the state-owned oil firm\u2014dubbed Nile Petroleum and Gas Corporation\u2019s headquarters in Juba\u2014Mr. Bakosoro predicted his fate and cited that he would be removed from his position due to his truthfulness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He criticized the country\u2019s leadership for frequently firing officials which he said contributed to corruption and embezzlement of the public funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe only thing that will remove me from where I am is straightforwardness because you [\u2026] don\u2019t like somebody who is very straightforward. You [\u2026] need me to praise you, to play with you,\u201d Bakosoro hinted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAre you going to change leader after leader without yielding any fruits,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is not yet clear if Bakosoro also lost his position as the chairperson of the board of the Nile Petroleum and Gas Corporation. The state-owned oil and gas corporation is managed by the office of the president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a separate decree, President Kiir named Chol Mawut the new minister in the office of the president.&nbsp;Mawut serves as South Sudan\u2019s ambassador to Kenya and a lawyer by profession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the 2013 conflict and subsequent fallout with President Kiir\u2019s government, Bakosoro who was then displaced to Atlanta, Georgia, United States of America, where he formed his party branded \u201cThe National Movement for Change\u201d shortened as NMC projected to effect regime change in the world\u2019s youngest nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the signing of the 2018 revitalized peace agreement, Bakosoro returned home and was appointed minister of public service before he was persuaded to dissolve his NMC party to rejoin the ruling party, SPLM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Bakosoro was appointed minister of presidential affairs in November last year and served for 8 months before he was removed on Monday, 19 August 2024.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>South Sudan&#8217;s President, Salva Kiir Mayardit. |File Photo|.
