{"id":1630,"date":"2025-08-29T10:01:31","date_gmt":"2025-08-29T10:01:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/goldentimessouthsudan.com\/?p=1630"},"modified":"2025-08-29T10:01:31","modified_gmt":"2025-08-29T10:01:31","slug":"germany-ushers-glimpse-of-hope-to-south-sudans-severe-humanitarian-crisis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/goldentimessouthsudan.com\/index.php\/2025\/08\/29\/germany-ushers-glimpse-of-hope-to-south-sudans-severe-humanitarian-crisis\/","title":{"rendered":"Germany ushers glimpse of hope to South Sudan\u2019s severe humanitarian crisis"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right\"><sub><em>A South Sudanese child struggling with acute malnutrition. |File Photo|.<\/em><\/sub><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sub>Friday, 29 August 2025<\/sub><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Germany has provided another 65 million USD to UNICEF and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to strengthen community resilience to various shocks in South Sudan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The funding comes at a time when 9.3 million people \u2014 about 70 per cent of the 13.4 million population \u2014 are estimated to require humanitarian assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The contribution channelled through KfW, the German Development Bank, will be used to support close to one million people, under the Joint Resilience Project Phase II in South Sudan, targeting urban and peri-urban areas in Juba, Torit, Yambio, and Aweil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The German funding will be used to provide education, health, livelihood, as well as water, sanitation, and hygiene services (WASH), child protection, and prevention of Gender Based Violence activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some funds will be used to improve education infrastructure, including renovating classrooms and providing daily school meals, a complementary health intervention that helps build human capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEnhancing food and nutritional security, improving education, and fostering social cohesion avert long-term dependence on humanitarian aid. South Sudan has enormous potential to be self-reliant,\u201d said Gregory Bledjian, Head of Mission of Germany to South Sudan. \u201cThe second phase of the Joint Resilience Project helps to unlock this potential. Germany is proud to support the South Sudanese people on this trajectory for development.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis timely and generous contribution from Germany will have a profound impact on some of the most vulnerable children in South Sudan,\u201d said Noala Skinner, UNICEF Representative in South Sudan. \u201cIt will enable UNICEF to scale up critical interventions \u2013 from treating severe malnutrition and ensuring access to clean water, to supporting essential health and education services, and protecting children from harm.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are deeply grateful for the support from Germany, whose funding strengthens our commitment to empowering communities in South Sudan,\u201d said Adham Effendi, WFP\u2019s Acting WFP Representative and Country Director in South Sudan. \u201cThis support is not just aid \u2013 it is an investment in lasting resilience, food security, and dignity of the people we serve.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Joint Resilience Project Phase II aims to consolidate the gains made during the first phase while providing an opportunity for geographic expansion in other parts of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Germany already provided more than 120 Mio.
