The Government of the Republic of South Sudan has condemned the Islamic Republic of Iran for launching missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and several countries in the Middle East and surrounding regions.

In an official statement, South Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the strikes as unjustifiable and a violation of international law.

“The targeting of the energy sector, residential areas, and supply chains through the Strait of Hormuz and other areas is a violation of international law, the United Nations Charter, as well as other regional legal instruments governing relations between states,” the statement partly read.

According to the ministry, the attacks affected several countries, including the State of Israel, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the State of Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Sultanate of Oman, the Republic of Türkiye, the Republic of Cyprus, and the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The Government of South Sudan expressed concern over the potential impact of the attacks on peace and stability in the Gulf region and the wider international community.

It also commended the resilience of the governments and citizens of the affected countries in responding to the attacks.

The renewed tensions involving Israel, Iran, and the United States, as well as the ongoing attacks on oil shipping in the Red Sea by Houthi forces and the blocking of the Strait of Hormuz, could have economic implications for South Sudan.

As a landlocked country, South Sudan relies heavily on oil exports transported through the Red Sea, making regional instability a potential threat to its economic stability.
